Volunteer of the Year Write-Ups
Youth 2015 Caitlin Pink
This young girl came from a club that had held a lot of family tradition for the whole family. A big move for all but especially a 12 year old beginning with only few friends in J1 in 2012. In 2013, as a 13 ½ year old, she stepped in as coach of J5’s with Jasmin McElroy and Tara Walkley when their coach moved away during the season. In 2014 Caitlin coached the J5’s on her own and played 15Us. This season Caitlin completed her Netball Australia Foundation Coaching Accreditation and coached our J4s, while continuing to play seniors in C1’s @ 15 years of age. Caitlin shows a great inner strength and maturity beyond her years. She is and will continue to be a great asset to this club in her own quiet & humble way. The Blyth Snowtown Netball Club will continue to encourage and support your development to coach higher grades and progress through nationally accredited coaching opportunities - next course is Development.
We believe you have the potential to become a great future coach.
2017 Neve Pratt
Neve is always happy to lend a hand, often doing other people's umpiring duties, helping out with other netballer's kids, and contributing with her team's duties for Snowtown teas and set up/pack up etc. This year Neve took on J1 coach when Karen went overseas and continued when Karen was back. She was eager to take on the role and has proven a great coach and mentor for the J1 girls. She is a great role model for other young netballers with a great attitude towards doing whatever task she is asked to within the club.
2021 Madison Schultz
Maddison has put her hand up to set up and pack up on all home games, and a number of scoring timing jobs on the Sunday of the 1st semi final. She has also put her hand up to help on the Sunday of the junior wind up.
She volunteers to umpire and is always happy to sit on any team's bench and is always happy and willing to put her hand up for anything around the netball club.
2022 Lily Stirling
Lilly has been an important member of the Cats Creche team for a number of years now. She first started as one of the kids, now she helps run Creche. the cats Creche is an important part to our club, without these ladies there would be many players who wouldn't be able to train.
She is one of the first ones there after training herself. She is always welcoming and makes the kids feel really comfortable and happy.
2023 Eliza Honner
Eliza has volunteered as the C2 Team Manager in the 2022 season and shown up every week to help out wherever she can. She has also helped numerous times throughout this season with different grades including A1s. She keeps track of player movements, score, goals, best player (for both teams) and who our umpire was. She has learnt how to make changes on the score card and helps the players with their bibs and hands out lollies. She also assists in making coaching decisions with the coach. Eliza has often looked after the bench, whilst the coach has been playing on court. The team could not have functioned without her and her dedication this year. Such a great effort for someone who has only just turned 11 and I’m sure she will continue to be a valuable asset to the club.
2001 Cathy Agnew
Cathy has been in administration for the Blyth and Blyth/Snowtown Clubs for many years as a committee member and was President of the Blyth Netball Club for two years. She is currently a committee member and President of the Blyth Snowtown Netball club for the third year. Cathy was also Secretary of the Blyth Club for two terms of two years. She has been a delegate to NENA for many years including 2002.
Cathy has been a club umpire for the past 26 years and has passed on her knowledge with the up and coming young umpires by being a UT2000 and UB2000 observer since its inception. Cathy has umpired most weeks over her 26 years. She has also coached on numerous occasions over the past 21 years. She has coached A, B and C grades, leading many of them to finals success and premierships. Cathy has played for the Blyth and Blyth/Snowtown Clubs for the past 29 years and is a current A2 player. She has also done numerous other jobs for both of the clubs in preparing the first aid kits, washing bibs, cleaning clubrooms, writing news reports, attending working bees, etc. Cathy has also attended many clinics including umpiring and coaching and has passed on many tips from these to other club members.
Cathy has been a willing volunteer and took on the position as NENA reporter in 1999. Cathy has umpired some NENA finals and High School open netball. Cathy has represented NENA at the Country Champs in A grade for 1 year and in Masters for the past 5 years. She was coach and member of the 2002 Masters premiership team. She also played in the Country Champs for the Blyth Club many times. Cathy has coached the NENA Masters Country Champs team for the past 3 years. She has also been a Country Champs selector.
Cathy is one of the few that will always put up her hand to do any job in our Club. She does not hesitate to help out when needed. She has great organisational skills and has helped the organisation of fundraising activities on all occasions. Every club seems the have the `same few’ who are always there to help out, Cathy is one of these people. Cathy has also passed on her talent when coaching. Cathy listens to other points of view and deals with problems/complaints quickly and fairly is an easy person to approach with problems or ideas.
She takes on any job with pride and asserts herself to do the best of her ability. Cathy has an invaluable depth of information and knowledge about netball and is a great help to any new office bearer or new member of our Club and to everyone else involved in netball. The Blyth/Snowtown Netball Club is extremely fortunate to have someone like Cathy in our Club and we admire her for the work she has done and continues to do.
We hope you look favourably at Cathy’s nomination and reward the dedication she has put towards netball.
2005 Carley Darling
Carley has been at tireless worker for the Blyth Snowtown netball Club for many years, as an active committee member and most recently being President and running the Club in every way. Carley has coached for numerous years and at the same time is always the one left to pack and tidy up after practices and Saturday games. She has represented the Club in the NENA Masters team at Country Champs for 6 years and has shown her netball ability by still playing A1 netball. She has played 350 games in the North Eastern Netball Association.
Carley has tirelessly worked behind the scenes doing jobs such as pumping up balls for practice, attending working bees, running fundraising events and many other thankless jobs. Carley has a good rapport with members young and old and good at sorting out any problems that arise. She always has the clubs best interests at heart. Carley is a worthy recipient of this prize.

Heather commenced playing for Blyth in 1978 and has played over 400 games and has won two Association Best & Fairest Trophies as well as numerous Club Awards. 2009 Bernie Keech
Bernie is a great club person; this year alone she is coaching C2 , captain of A1’s, Vice President and attends NENA meetings, organises money squares to be sold at home games and umpires on a regular basis ad Cat Chat coordinator. I’ve been really impressed with her efforts with C2’s even on games where they are losing by a large margin she remain very positive and praising of her players. In the past she has also been treasurer, coached 15U to a premiership and organised netball trips. There is probably a lot more that I have not mentioned.
From last years nomination - Bernie has been a player with Blyth Snowtown for a number of years and has always given 100% on the court at all times. Her desire for the ball is to be admired. Bernie has been a dedicated club member always doing what she can to help out. Bernie does a lot of little jobs that go unnoticed behind the scenes including setting up and cleaning up at the end of the day. She is always willing to help out when jobs need to be done and is a worthy recipient of Volunteer of the Year. Bernie is also a regular umpire stepping up to do the higher grades when needed. She has also coached, been an active committee member and held the position of Treasurer. This year she volunteered to be Association Academy Selector which involves three Sundays of travelling to Blyth, Clare & Jamestown to select the Academy squads.

2013 Tanya Warner
Tanya has been a supporter of the Blyth Snowtown Netball Club for a number of years. Although admitting she has very little netball experience, she has taken on roles to help out where she can.
She coached J3s in 2006 and J2s in 2011, and was junior coordinator in 2008 and 2009. She has been on the Blyth Snowtown Committee in 06, 08, 09 and 2013, and brought the Injury Ice in 2009. She was the Junior NENA delegate in 08 and 09.
Tanya was on the new uniforms committee to select and order the latest new uniforms, helping with the sizings and other little jobs.
Over the past few years Snowtown has hosted carnivals for Academy and Tanya is a significant part of the catering, set up and pack up for the whole day.
She was an Academy Trials Coach in 2013, which turned out to be quiet a challenging task.
She regularly cleans the Snowtown clubrooms before home games and always attends working bees when they are called. Most home games to helps set up and pack up, even when it is not her turn, and sweeps the courts if needed. She tidies up the equipment room, vacuums and cleans windows.
Tanya often scores the junior games when other scorers don’t turn up, and keeps an eye match day proceedings.
Tanya always helps out at windups, serving chickens for many years and recently serving the meat. She’s orders the cake for dessert, and helps pack up at the end of the day. She also helps out at junior teas, often organizing the sausages, or making the paddy mix, and is behind the counter serving the kids their hamburgers and fruit boxes.
Tanya always helps where she can, and is usually unnoticed, as many of these jobs are done early in the morning or behind the scenes. She would be worthy of this gratifying award.
2014 Maggie Hentschke
Maggie has been a wonderful asset since joining our club in 2008. Maggie coached the A1 Netball team from 2008 until 2013, taking them to the semi finals the first year, followed by 5 consecutive A1 Premierships. In this time she also took special skills nights for the first 2 years in addition to normal Thursday night trainings. In 2009 Maggie joined the committee, and in 2010 was on the committee, was junior development officer and the umpires co-ordinator, all of which she did again in 2011. Maggie has brought professionalism to our club and has put in a lot of time and effort teaching our club new skills. This year, she took a step back from head coaching to rest and regroup, whilst still playing an integral part of the A1 Netball Team as Assistant Coach and senior player. This year, Maggie has done a wonderful job of coaching the 15U, and has done the tough job juggling 10 players. They have not only grown at least a meter taller (Maggie can’t take credit for that!) but they have also grown in confidence, ability and passion for netball. The special thing about these girls is that they are being equipped with the problem solving, understanding and skills they need to not only play top netball at BSNC but also beyond! She always plans her trainings well, making them fun and educational, and gets the most out of her girls. She is an excellent role model for our club. I’m nominating Maggie because she has demonstrated for seven years her commitment to the development of girls at our club, and has put in place coaching systems, policy systems and widespread expectations that mean our club has the best chance of succeeding through all age groups and skill levels.
2015 Bec Jamieson
It has been great to have the knowledge and commitment of Bec back around the netball club this season. She committed early in the year to coaching the B1 team and has done a tremendous job under difficult circumstances. She has been enthusiastic about fitness and ran sessions in pre-season and during the year. Bec helped organise the Cats Mid-Season Dirt Wars trip to the Riverland, which was enjoyed by all who attended and was a great club activity.
Bec has also had a very involved history with the club. She joined the Blyth Snowtown Netball Club Committee in 2004, where she stayed until the 2009 season. She was Club reporter in 2006, Umpires co-ordinator in 2007 and 2009, BSNC NENA delegate in 2007, 2008 and 2009, Country Champs delegate in 2009 and 2010, Vice President in 2006, 2007 and 2008, and President of the
BSNC in 2009. She was even part of the New Bodysuit Committee in 2002! All these roles are time consuming and require dedication to the job.
Bec has coached throughout the years, B1’s in 2003 and 2004, A2’s in 2007 with Lisa Stirling, B1’s in 2008 and again this year. She also won Premierships coaching in 2003 and 2007 seasons. She has played over 100 games for the Club but unfortunately her knees have not allowed her playing career to go on.
Bec has been a valued member of the club for many years, and I hope we continue to see her around the courts.
2016 Tahlia Tilley
Since joining the Cats in 2012, Tahlia has been a highly active member of BSNC. In 2012 she played, umpired regularly & as a new player did not hesitate to put her hand up to help out.
Since 2013 she has been a member for the committee as Treasurer and has continued this for 4 years. Tahlia has been an active committee member and has quietly but efficiently been involved with many projects throughout the past few years - no matter what task, big or small, Tahlia will do it well without a fuss or need for recognition. Such tasks include:
- BSNC delegate to attend Country Champs meetings in 2013
- Offering to help out with any information that needs to be distributed at trainings
- umpires at Country Champ & Academy trials
- Assisted with coordination of handing out new uniforms
- Assisted with ordering and handing out BSNC T-shirts 2013 & 2014
- Collecting all deposits and payments for uniforms, T-shirts, hoodies, subs etc etc
- coached the successful J1 team with Amy Hall in 2013
- Joined the Cats Social Committee in 2014 & 2015
- Is a regular umpire on top of her playing commitments
This year Tahlia's dedication to the club has been nothing short of astronomical!! She has taken on many MAJOR roles within the club. She has continued to be Treasurer and a committee member for her 4th consecutive year. She attends every NENA meeting as our NENA delegate with Kristin and reports back to the committee. Tahlia took on uniform coordinator at the beginning of the season as Nadsy gave birth early and had to hand over
the role. As sponsorship coordinator Tahlia revamped our sponsorship program gaining more sponsors to ease the pressure of fundraising. She is a highly active member of the Cats Social Committee and also took part in Netball SA Budding Leadership Program, which required a commitment of 3 Sundays in Adelaide over a few months. She holds a clear vision and commitment to the Cats and the Netball club in to the future.
You would think Tahlia could not fit another netball related role in, you’re wrong…..she also coached the C1 team! Anyone who has coached knows it’s a huge commitment - spending time planning trainings, attending trainings and coaching on Saturdays.
Tahlia's Saturdays are undoubtable busy, with coaching, playing & umpiring usually back-to-back-to-back as well as making sure all administrative duties are complete at the end of the day and the white tub is packed up neatly! It usually doesn’t end there, in the evening she’s either helping out the social committee with teas at Snowy or events and also is a presenter at netball presentations or BOTH!
If volunteers were paid, Tahlia would be a millionaire! Basically, no matter what task, big or small, Tahlia will do it well with ease and without a fuss. ‘No’ does not exist in her vocabulary.
Tahlia works and lives in Clare. Thank goodness she decided to come over the hill to the Cats instead of settling for the Demons or Roosters! We are very lucky to have Tahlia, she is an essential part of our clubs success and highly deserves to be recognised as one of the clubs sensational volunteers as the 2016 Volunteer of the Year.
2017 Valarie Ciardiello
Valarie has continuously committed to the Cats significantly over many years.
She has coached many grades over the years, including Junior Grades when Maddison was a junior and again with Brianna now playing, as well as taking on the tough job of coaching C2s in past years – often having to work tirelessly to find players come Saturday morning.
She regularly observes and mentors umpires of the junior grades and steps in at the last minute when the club needs one on the day.
Valarie has volunteered without being asked to help with selections/umpiring at Country Champs and Academy trials.
She attends workshops or other events where NENA require each club to be represented which saves Blyth Snowtown being fined for not attending.
Valarie has been on the Committee since 2014.
Valarie has been the risk assessment officer for the club, signing off that the courts are safe to play on each Saturday morning.
This season Valarie stepped up to the Junior Coordinator role, this is a difficult role, particularly this year with junior coaches needing to go and train as soon as they have finished training, leading to little or no junior coach selection meetings. Valarie organised to bring back the highly successful parents v juniors game at the last training of the season which was loved by all involved.
We are very lucky to have Valarie as she just gets things done without a fuss, she is a quiet achiever, a valued member of our club and a very deserving winner of the 2017 Volunteer of the Year award.
Congratulations Valarie!
2018 Belinda Stringer
Bindy has been a part of the Blyth Snowtown Netball Club since 2008 and over the years has played, coached, team managed and done many behind the scenes roles for the club.
We all know Bindy’s husband Derryn loves to cook for everyone at Snowtown but well before the Snowtown Pavilion kitchen was around Bindy was providing delicious salads for most of the club functions. She was on the social committee for many years organizing many events. Since the club has been cooking teas at Snowtown we have often seen Bindy at the counter taking orders, teaching others how to use the EFTPOS machine or organising a roster to get new helpers in the kitchen. Bindy is also the one who banks all of the teas money and pays all food invoices.
Back for the BSNC Bindy was on the General Committee in 2011, has been website coordinator since 2013 – uploading teamsheets every week and updating club information every season, she has been games tally recorder for a long time – keeping track of who plays every week to tally player’s games and make sure milestones are recognised and was the Cat Chat coordinator for the 2015 & 2016 seasons.
In 2013 whilst pregnant with Ollie, Bindy coached the B1’s undefeated to the Grand Final but unfortunately didn’t come home with a medal, but she did get a pretty cool snuggie. 2016 with Elsie on the way, Bindy was part of the B1’s again, this time as team manager. Most other years Bindy has been on the court, found usually in Centre or Wing Defence with her mouthguard not getting in the way of encouraging her teammates. She is a passionate player with incredible fitness and this year she captained her A2 team to finals, providing great support to her coach and team mates. On Saturday’s whether playing, coaching or team managing, Bindy is always a great club person. She is happy to jump in and time or score if needed, she is supportive of all teams and if you aren’t sure of something she usually has the answer or will find a way to help.
2019 Kristin Carling
This years Volunteer of the Year has followed in the footsteps of her parents, grandparents, aunties and uncles. Being an active member of the club is in her blood! I would like Kristin Carling to come up to receive the 2019 Volunteer of the Year award!
Kristin took on her first role in 2009 at the age of 15 coaching the J4s. She coached again in 2010, this time the J2s.
In 2015 it seemed Kristin couldn’t say no! She coached 15U with Sophie Weaver, jumped on the committee and took on the mammoth task of NENA Recorder – collecting, checking and inputting all of the scorecards for the whole association. Anyone that has coached, been on committee or been to a NENA meeting knows that this is a big role – there are always questions of scorecard errors or how many games players have played in particular grades and it was Kristin’s job to have all the answers that year.
In 2016 Kristin continued on the committee and attended the NENA meetings as a BSNC rep confidently representing our club. There are often times when other clubs will have questions or issues and Kristin is never intimidated, she is able to draw on her experience and memories to give relevant input.
Kristin then took on the role of BSNC Secretary for the next two years as well as coaching the B2s to a grand final in 2017. Secretary is a huge role but Kristin handled it right from the get-go and was always efficient.
This year Kristin is still a dedicated member of the committee and has also joined the Cats Social Committee which has had an excellent year entertaining us all!
Throughout all of these years Kristin has also been a very capable umpire, committed player and a welcoming friend to new and old Cats members.
The time and effort Kristin puts into the Cats is astonishing. Nothing is ever too hard for Kristin and she will do whatever you ask of her with a smile.
Kristin is a prime example of what future committee members and players should be. She is an incredible asset to our club and very deserving of this award, congratulations Kristin!

2023 Bianca Henderson
How lucky we are to have Bianca at the Blyth Snowtown Netball Club. Bianca received numerous nominations this year which proves other members recognise her tireless work around the club.
Since coming to the Blyth Snowtown Netball Club in 2015 Bianca has been a very valuable contributor to our club. Although she has dealt with injuries throughout her own A grade netballing, Bianca continues to put in many of her own hours volunteering. As a fairly new member to our club she didn’t stand back and waited to be asked to volunteer, she has jumped in to help wherever she can and she’s very happy to do so. She has quite an extensive volunteer history so far….
* Passionate about our juniors even though she has no direct ties to our young Cats girls.
* Bianca introduced and has organised the idea of building relations between junior & senior netball team by having buddy teams at training and on Saturdays.
* Committed to developing her coaching skills by being an apprentice Academy coach in 2018, being mentored by Deb Heinjus.
* Bianca has gained her Foundation and has plans to gain her Development Coaching accreditation.
* Bianca bas been heavily involved in the Cats social committee with involves both football & netball players. This joint venture between football & netball has been a new concept over the past few years and Bianca has continued to make this initiative successful for the netball club. Planning, setting up & packing up each event is a massive job and we are all appreciative of Bianca’s (and all other social committee members) work for the rest of the club to enjoy.
* Bianca helps out at Snowtown Pavilion teas, notably the rostering, this is a major fundraiser for the club.
* Bianca has been the lead organiser for 2017 & 2018 netball trips, which has of course been enjoyed by all.
*Bianca is dedicated to providing a welcoming environment for all players and mindfully create a positive culture around the club.
*Bianca actively recruits players and works hard preparing pre-season and trials before anyone has even thought about the season!
* She also willingly assisted with A2 coaching and C grade coaching when needed in 2023 and has done in other seasons also.
* AND she also umpires when she can.
*Our major club fundraiser is Snowtown Pavilion teas and Bianca has been managing the roster to ensure our club successfully contributes.
*No doubt there’s many other things that do go unnoticed, but the club is extremely grateful.
She has been a heavy presence in administration, coaching and executive roles such as;

Bianca continues to make suggestions and then implements her ideas, which are usually to develop inclusion within the wider club, which she may not intentionally realise she’s doing, but she is!!
It’s great that our club has young people heavily invested in the club’s future. People like Bianca will ensure our club continues to prosper. Congratulations, you certainly deserve this award.
2024 Nicola Ross
As her Mother (Tracey Andriske) stepped off the Blyth Snowtown Netball committee in 2012, this daughter, who had never been on the committee, joined in 2013 as the huge job of secretary at the age of 21. Nicola held this position for 3 years. Nicola then moved down to the south east for many years and THEN she agreed to be secretary again in 2021 for ANOTHER 3 year term. One of the most intensive roles in our club, Nicola is the only person in the clubs history to fulfil this role twice for 3 years. Whilst doing this role she has also been club reporter, club recorder and posting the team sheet each week. Ever wonder how the white match day tub get to and from the games, Nicola is often doing this job without a fuss. Nicola has been a NENA delegate numerous times over the years, attending NENA meetings and reporting back to the committee. She has organised the training long sleeve tops and training singlets and is happy to donate food to any event held by our club. Nicola has happily helped organise netball trips and other social events. Even small, important jobs like having ice available at Blyth, Nicola made sure it was there.
She coached the 15U in 2021 and played her 200th game at a Semi Final in Redhill in 2023.
Lastly, Nicola's umpiring. she obtained her C Grade Umpiring badge this year and has been a regular umpire for many years, we should probably have umpiring milestone games as Nicola would have notched up quite a few and often volunteering to umpire at last minute and sometimes consecutive matches. He willingness to volunteer umpire at academy and country champ trials and trainings is most appreciated. No doubt there's so much more Nic has done, she quietly puts her hand up and nothing seems to be to much of an effort for Nicola. Nic just gets things done and expects no praise or recognition, so it is our honour to present her with this award to acknowledge everything Nicola has contributed to this club over the past 10+ years.
